Gas Separation
The gas separations laboratory specializes in the characterization of volatile or semi-volatile compounds. Impact Analytical has a state-of-the-art gas separations laboratory that includes three standard GCs with TCD and FID detection, as well as three GC-MS instruments. Two of the GC-MS instruments are workhorse Agilent instruments tasked with headspace and quantitation projects. The third GC-MS is a Finnigan TRACE DSQ system with EI and CI capability, allowing for identification of unknown compounds down to below part-per-billion levels.
Samples of past projects in this laboratory include:
- Unknown component characterization
- Extractables
- Solvents analysis
- Polymer additives analysis/quantitation
- Residual monomer detection
- Headspace analysis
- Taste and odor analysis
Support equipment and sampling capabilities for the GC-MS laboratory include:
- Headspace autosampler
- Liquid autosampler
- Spex mill cryo-grinder
- Solid phase micro-extraction (SPME)
- Soxhlet extraction
- Accelerated microwave extraction
