MALDI-TOF (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Time of Flight) Mass Spectrometry is one of the most specialized mass spectrometric techniques available. This technique enables analysis of macromolecules with molecular weights ranging from 100 to 1,000,000 mass units.

Unlike other macromolecular analysis techniques, the temperature, shape, or state of the protein is not a limiting factor.

MALDI-TOF-MS analysis gives fast, accurate data that can provide the following information:

• Peptide/Protein molecular weight
• Sequence of peptides
• Analysis of a peptide during a protease digestion experiment at selected time intervals

These problems would otherwise require multiple analyses on up to 5 different instruments.
