Impact Analytical recently added flame extension/flashback testing of aerosol cans to its suite of diagnostic capabilities. The flame testing is an important step for aerosol manufacturers seeking federal approval for their products.
Impact is now able to test against both the US CPSC and Canadian Dept. of Justice test standards. These methods involve the measurement of any flame produced when an aerosol product is sprayed into it. The results are used to classify aerosol products as “non-flammable”, “flammable”, or “very flammable”, and are required testing for every lot of aerosol product marketing in the US & Canada.
Impact's state-of-the-art, custom-built test stand allows for the accurate and safe testing of aerosol cans of all shapes and sizes. The testing is done inside a stainless steel-lined hood, through the use of air-operated actuator. This allows analysts the ability to safely observe the test from outside the hood, while also producing repeatable discharges of each sample.
